Born and raised in Iowa City, Hop was born December 30, 1952, the son of John and Ruth (Hauk) Funk. He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1971.
Growing up he worked at Muller Plumbing and soon took a job with the City of Iowa City in the Wastewater Department – where he spent the next 30 years.
Hop was married to Margaret “Peg” Funk for many years and together they had two sons, Matt and Josh. Hop and Peg later divorced.
Hop married Cindy Dohman May 12, 2001 in Iowa City.
Hop loved to work with copper and metal to craft and showcase his metal art work. He also had a punchline for every comment! Above all, Hop was a very kind and generous man who loved his family and his grandchildren.
