JoAnn was born June 6, 1934 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of John and Carol Rose Loiacono Manderscheid. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School in Buffalo and attended the University of Buffalo. JoAnn was employed in the department of pediatrics at UIHC for 38 years, where she was the Residency Program Coordinator, retiring in 1999.
Most important to JoAnn was her family and her close group of friends, which were diverse in age and culture. She loved children and her pets. JoAnn was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Altrusa and a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. She loved to travel, bowl, ice skate, swim and ski. JoAnn enjoyed cooking and welcoming people into her home, especially at Thanksgiving, her favorite holiday. One of her longstanding passions which should not go unnoticed is her staunch support for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
