Obituary for Matthew Thomas Bertell

Matthew Thomas Bertell, 20, of Iowa City died Thursday, August 23rd, 2018.

A time of fellowship and remembrance will be held Saturday, August 25 from 4-6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Matthew Bertell Scholarship Fund in care of the University of Iowa Community Credit Union, 825 Mormon Trek Blvd., Iowa City or NVLD (Non-verbal Learning Disorder) Organization at NVLD.org.

Matthew was born April 27, 1998 in Iowa City, He graduated from Iowa City West High in 2016. He was currently a junior at the University of Iowa majoring in sports management. He was a member of the UI Bowling Team. Matthew enjoyed auto racing and was an avid Hawkeye sports fan.

Survivors include his parents Tom and Liz (Dilley) Bertell of Iowa City; his brother Ben of Iowa City; his grandmothers Donna Dilley of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Marilyn Bertell of Iowa City; aunts Ann Bertell of Evanston, Illinois and Amy (Jeff) Parsons of San Antonio, Texas and special cousins Amber (Rod) Dias and Joshua Parsons both of Dallas, Texas and other extended family members.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandfathers R. D. Bertell and Lyle Dilley and his uncle Dan Dilley.
