Obituary for Ronald K. Kahler

Ronald ‘Ron” Kahler, 76, of Iowa City, died Wednesday morning, February 8, 2017 at Iowa City Rehab & Health Care Center.

Visitation will be held Monday from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Services will begin at 1:00 pm Monday at the funeral home. Private burial will follow in the Oxford Cemetery.

Instead of flowers and plants, the family requests that memorials be directed to The Ronald Kahler Memorial Fund.

Born November 23, 1940 in Iowa City, the son of Edwin and Lydia Kahler, Ron grew up in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962. Upon discharge from the military and an electrician by trade, Ron worked at the University of Iowa Physical Plant. Ron later owned and operated Kahler Electric for over 20 years and upon retiring from owning his own business, he returned to University Hospitals as an electrician.

Survivors include his sons, Kevin Kahler and Brian Kahler (Jen), all of Iowa City;
a brother, Vern Votroubek (Dell) of Fairfax and 1 niece and 1 nephew.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Myron.
