Obituary for James "Jim" G. Hollensbe

James Glen Hollensbe, 59, formerly of Williamsburg, died suddenly on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at his home in Coralville.

Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 8th at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road in Coralville. A celebration of life will be Saturday, February 9, at 10:30 a.m.

Jim was working for the University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics as a Program Director for Creative Services. Jim was known in Williamsburg for his several years of coaching youth baseball and basketball. He was an active member at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for decades, stepping behind the pulpit as a lay minister on several occasions. A proud father and a loving husband, Jim will be remembered as an incredibly hard-working family man that served others without a second thought. He was faithful in attending his children’s extra-curricular activities at Williamsburg High School, Marquette Catholic High School in Bellevue and the University of Iowa.

At the time of his death, he was filled with happiness and serving the people he loved.
He was born in Indiana and grew up in Iowa. He was graduated from Waverly Shell-Rock High School and later the University of Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Deb, son Jimmy (Audrey) Hollensbe of Bellevue, daughters Jana and Julie of Coralville, grandsons Bennett Hollensbe and newborn Richard James Hollensbe, in-laws Bernie and Marilyn Aumann of Coralville, brothers Bruce (Jane) Hollensbe, Olathe, Kansas, Brant (Ronda) Hollensbe, West Des Moines, sisters Carol Kreuger, Mansfield, Ark., Linda (Ron) Cooper, North Port, Fl., sister-in-law Lynda (Jeff) Horning, Manchester, Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the Coralville-area first responders for their work as well as their friends and neighbors who have provided them with so much support, compassion, and comfort throughout this challenging and difficult time. Jim’s impact on all the people that knew him has been abundantly clear.

A Jim Hollensbe Memorial Fund has been established for his children, grandchildren and the charities he is most passionate about.
