Obituary for Raymond Lloyd Crase

Raymond Lloyd Crase, 68 years young, lost his battle with stage four lung cancer on January 3, 2019 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.

Honoring Ray's wishes, cremation has taken place at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, Iowa. Private family services will be held on January 19, 2019 at 2 PM in Mazon, Illinois.

Raymond L. Crase, oldest son of Raymond and Mary Ellen (Schmidt) Crase was born June 6, 1950 in Illinois. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for six years before honorably discharged in 1976. He later attended college and received a degree in Accounting, becoming a C.P.A. Ray worked many jobs in construction but ended his career being known as “Safety Ray” after teaching OSHA classes in many states across the United States.

Ray loved his sports, especially his two favorite teams, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Cubbies. He was an excellent chef, being known for his rib-eye steaks and Pennsylvania bacon. He made sure grape jelly and ketsup could always be found on the table. He also enjoyed trying his luck at the casino and fishing, “Fish On!”

Ray loved his siblings and always seemed to call them by their first and middle names. His humor and laughter will be missed.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly (Kimmy) Herdman, by his side for sixteen years; siblings who always enjoyed his laughter, Donna Mann, Margie Schlee, and Janet Crase, all three from Colorado, Jackie (Jerry) Siebersma of Coal City, Tom (Kim) Crase of Utah, Mike Crase of Indiana, and Randy (Toni) Crase of Channahon; step children, Justin (Jessica) Herdman, Tawnya (Tim) Plunkard, Crystal (Michael) Jackson, and Cassie (Raymond) Hoover; and his eight grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his children, Ryan and Joslyn; parents; sisters, Pat Caswell and Mary Ellen; brother, Gary; grandparents; nieces, and nephews.

RIP “Safety Ray”.
We love you!
