Elizabeth (Liz) Jeanne Sleichter, age 38, of rural Mt. Vernon, Iowa, died on December 27, 2017 at The Bird House in Iowa City under the care of Hospice.

Friends & family are invited to a Remembrance Gathering on Saturday, December 30 from 1-3 p.m.
at the Social Hall St. Patrick’s Church, 4330 St. Patrick’s Dr., Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers, Liz requests that donations may be made to a fund in her memory to benefit the later education of her 8 year old daughter, Timber. Donations may be sent to: “The Elizabeth J. Sleichter Trust Fund” c/o of Mindy Sleichter at the U of I Community Credit Union.

Liz was born on April 10, 1979 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City to her parents Sue Feeney & Jim Sleichter.

Liz attended Hoover & Mann Elementary schools, Southeast Jr. High & graduated in 1997 from City High School. Liz attended the Upward Bound Project in the summer of 1996 through the University of Iowa. In 1999, she earned an AA Degree from Kirkwood Community College in Fashion Merchandising & was later employed at Textiles, a women's clothing store from 2001-08. In 2008, she completed the program at the East-West Massage School in North Liberty & began her business, Presence Massage Therapy as a massage therapist.

Liz’s purpose in life changed forever when she gave birth to her beloved & precious daughter Timber Scholl on February 10, 2009, affirming her new purpose to be an amazing mom.

Liz lost her life to breast cancer that was found in June of 2010. She decided to fight this horrific disease with surgeries, chemotherapy & radiation. The breast cancer spread to other areas in her body & she continued to receive a variety of treatments through her oncologist, Dr. Ghosh in Cedar Rapids. In October of 2015, a tumor was found & removed from her brain. Liz continued to receive treatments for her many health issues until this fall, when her body could no longer tolerate it. Even then, Liz was hopeful that a miracle would happen & she would be cured & have a second chance of life. She was admitted to Respite Care at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on December 12, 2017 & was cared for by the loving nurses & aides in the Hospice Unit. On December 20th, she was transferred to The Bird House, where Liz remained & received excellent end-of-life care from their staff.

Liz will forever be remembered for her positive attitude and outlook on life. She loved her family and friends and cherished her time spent with all of them. Liz loved animals, especially her four fur babies. She loved music and attending concerts. Her passion for music has been passed on to her daughter Timber. It was Liz’s wish that a cure would be found so nobody would have to suffer. She would want those affected to have hope, strength and to never give up. Her infectious smile and free spirit touched so many people and will never be forgotten. #LIZSTRONG
